Automated Accounting

This course is designed to give students an introduction into accounting principles and enables them to learn how computers are used for accounting applications with today's powerful computer systems.

The operating procedures are presented with ample illustrations and notes required to process the accounting material. Summaries follow presentations. A computer tutorial problem is then introduced that contains detailed step-by-step instructions for completing the problem covered. Most computer problems contain optional spreadsheet and word processing activities that utilize the information generated by the accounting system.

prior knowledge of computers or computerized accounting is required; (2) to provide a hands-on approach to learning how modern computerized automated accounting systems function; and (3) to provide knowledge and a hands-on experience in integrating accounting with other business applications such as spreadsheets and word processors. There are identified learning objectives to be mastered for each lesson. This course is designed so that computer generated output and the accounting procedures are very similar to those currently used in business and industry.

QuickBooks® Integration

A new feature of Automated Accounting is now the integration of an accounting system setup. Students will learn to set up an accounting system using QuickBooks as a platform. This is both practical and usable in a typical work setting.

Automated Accounting software applications of general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliation, plant assets, budgeting, payroll, purchase order processing, and sales order processing. The Automated Accounting software also offers integration with other applications, such as spreadsheets and word processors. 

Organization Features of the Course

The course consists of thirteen lessons and three comprehensive projects. Each lesson begins with an introduction  that describes the topics to be covered.
